Welcome to Year 1
I will be posting weekly news and updates on this page so please check regularly. We also have a Year 1 class blog that is updated each week with what we have been doing in school. Please read and share this with your child. !
Thursday 22nd March - Phonics Meeting in Year 1 classroom at 3.30pm
Our topic is.... An Island Adventure!
Take a look at the medium term planning here...
PE will be taught every Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your child's PE kit remains at school throughout the week. Children can wear jogging bottoms as part of their kit in the winter months.
Forest School will be take place every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure your child's wellies remain in school throughout the year. We will send these home at the end of each term and let you know about new wellies for growing feet! We ask children to wear their school jumper/top with jogging bottoms for the day. Waterproofs are available in school for children to wear.
Celebration Assembly will take place on a Friday afternoon at 2.40 in the church.
Our Gold award is given to children who have been recognised for their effort and positive mindset.
Our Platinum award recognises children who display Christian values every day.
Gold - Who will it be?
Platinum - Who will it be?
A letter with more details will be handed out when homework begins.
Reading: The children should be reading at home 10 minutes every night. Please record when your child has read in their reading diary and team points will be awarded for reading 5 times a week. They could read their Guided Reading book, a home reader or a book from home. The key is to read little and often. Please question your child when reading to develop their comprehension skills.
Phonics: This will be a phonics worksheet, activity or game to be handed in on Thursday. New homework will be set on Friday.
Maths: Children are to complete one double page of their Maths booklets each week to be handed in on Thursday. It would be really helpful if these were marked at home so your child can fix mistakes and receive feedback at the time of completion.
Thank you for your support. It really makes a huge difference to the childrens learning.
